Head of Engineering – January 2025 Start

Gillingham, Medway

A highly regarded secondary school in Gillingham, Medway are seeking a qualified and experienced Engineering Teacher to step into a Head of Subject role, starting in January 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious educator to lead the engineering department and make a significant impact on students pursuing this field. The position will run until the end of the academic year, with a strong likelihood of becoming permanent.

About the Role:
As the Head of Engineering, you will teach and inspire students from Key Stage 4 through to Key Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10 up to sixth form), focusing on students who have chosen engineering as a key part of their academic and career pathways. In addition to delivering engaging lessons, you will lead the department, working collaboratively with staff to ensure the subject's continued success.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach Engineering at KS4 and KS5, fostering enthusiasm and progression in the subject.
Develop and implement engaging schemes of work to inspire students and achieve excellent results.
Lead and manage the Engineering department, providing support and mentorship to colleagues.
Build and maintain strong relationships with staff and students, ensuring a positive learning environment.
Support students in preparing for their next steps in further education or engineering-related careers.
Requirements:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE with at least 2 years of experience teaching Engineering at KS4 and KS5.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
A track record of building positive relationships with both staff and pupils.
Proven leadership potential or previous experience in leading a department is desirable.
Must be qualified to teach and work in the UK.
