Waste Management Specialist

They are seeking a Waste Specialist to fill this newly created role in a growing, environmentally conscious business.

The ideal candidate will have:

Deep knowledge of Waste Declarations and reporting process.
Environment Agency / DEFRA regulations, including EPR.
Familiarity with the PRN and PERN processes.
Expertise in Waste streams specifically OCC (Ordinary Corrugated Cardboard).
Negotiations skills in buying and working with recycling businesses in the UK.
Understanding of papermill operations and recycled material exports.
A hands-on, proactive approach with a passion for sustainability and "doing the right thing."
Strong documentation and process management skills.
A willingness to travel internationally (initial trips to Thailand, UK and Europe travel).

Main Responsibilities

Build and maintain relationships with local recycling businesses to source recycled cardboard.
Manage the export of recycled materials to the company-owned papermill in Thailand, leveraging the same containers used for product imports.
Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and documentation requirements.
Oversee the buying of OCC from UK recycling businesses.
Collaborate with teams to understand and refine waste management processes.
Be the first point of contact for waste management operations, with the opportunity to grow into a senior role as the business expands

Required

Proven experience in waste management, recycling, and environmental compliance.
Hands-on, practical attitude with a readiness to "get dirty" and be on the front lines.
Exceptional knowledge of relevant regulations and processes (EPR, PRN, PERN).
Ability to work independently and develop the role in alignment with the business's growth.
Availability for occasional international travel.

Hybrid role - 2/3 days in the office
